Job Description

Peer tutors will primarily be involved with tutoring math. They will meet with on campus undergraduate students in scheduled study sessions to assist students in the content areas identified each semester as requiring support by the Learning Commons. Peer tutors must possess excellent reading and critical thinking skills so as to model these for tutees in small group or one on one study sessions as arranged by the Coordinator of the Learning Commons.

Job Requirements

Peer tutor must produce evidence of successful completion of the course that s/he will tutor in, or equivalent background in that subject matter. The primary subject needed is Math- Advanced Calculus. Occasionally, other subjects (such as physics) will be asked for. Peer tutor must be willing to work with the Coordinator of the Learning Commons to ensure that s/he works ethically with each tutee, in the time-frame approved by the Coordinator, and remains in good academic standing throughout the period of employment. The peer tutor will be evaluated for timeliness and ability to communicate effectively with tutees and the Coordinator throughout the period of employment.
