Position Overview

The Alumni Engagement & Social Media Assistant will support the Alumni Relations Department in maintaining active and engaging social media presence, fostering alumni relationships through personalized communications, and assisting with alumni outreach initiatives. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, creative, and organized student with strong writing skills and an interest in marketing, communications, or nonprofit management.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Management (40%)

  • Assist in creating content, scheduling, and posting engaging content across alumni social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
  • Monitor and respond to comments/messages in a professional and timely manner.
  • Help track engagement metrics and suggest improvements.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop campaigns that highlight alumni achievements, events, and university news.

Historical Archiving & Cataloging (30%)

{C}·       {C}Organize and maintain a searchable living inventory (digital/physical) for future reference by staff, students, and researchers.

{C}·       {C}Conduct oral history interviews or gather written narratives from alumni/faculty to enrich archival materials.

·       Collaborate with library/archives staff to find long term homes and display options for historical items

Alumni Communications (10%)

  • Draft, edit, and send personalized letters/emails to alumni for special occasions (e.g., milestones, reunions, thank-you notes).
  • Assist in assembling and mailing alumni gift packages (e.g., swag, welcome kits, donor acknowledgments).

General Alumni Outreach (10%)

  • Support event promotion for alumni activities (regional alumni events, networking events, etc).
  • Conduct research on alumni for engagement opportunities.
  • Assist with phone/email outreach to update alumni contact information.

Business Outreach (10%)

{C}·       Assist with developing relationships with alumni led businesses

  • Help develop relationships with other external partners

Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Skills

  • Current undergraduate student eligible for work-study.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms and best practices.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Interest in alumni relations, marketing, or nonprofit work (preferred but not required).
