Job Description

Housing & Residence Life employs 6 student staff members as Resident Advisors (RA) who assist and enhance our goal to build community within the Villages. These staff members dedicate countless hours to training, programming, and community building to help us strengthen the undergraduate experience.

We are hiring two temporary Resident Advisors for the Spring Session D term. These temporary positions will begin the weekend before spring break and will last for the duration of the term. As a temporary RA, you will provide crucial support to our residential community, helping to foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging living environment. You will work closely with the Housing & Residence Life team, attend regular meetings, and assist with events and programs that enhance student life on campus.

Resident Advisors help to create an enjoyable living and learning environment. The Resident Advisor is a source of encouragement, support, constructive criticism, and information to help the residents succeed academically and personally. Resident Advisors must have maturity, understanding of policies, and knowledge of Prescott College.

Resident Advisors are expected to conduct themselves consistently with the responsibilities outlined below and with Prescott College policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide compassionate support to incoming students. Promote positive customer support to students and their families during move-in days, preview days, and office hours.
  2. On-duty responsibilities consist of conducting rounds of the building and surrounding premises, confronting violations of rules and regulations in the Residence Life Handbook, interacting with residents, and building a sense of community. RAs will be expected to be on duty roughly eight times monthly for the upcoming year.
  3. Be a source of information on policies, rules, and regulations of The Village and Prescott College. Enforce and support the policies, rules and regulations, procedures, or any policy or law that Prescott College students must follow (i.e., College Campus, City, State, and Local Laws). Confront and report student conduct concerns (i.e., writing Incident Reports in Maxient and communicating this to the Residence Life Coordinator).
  4. Give tours of The Village to prospective students and parents, as needed. Answer student and parent questions about Prescott College. Participate in at least 2 Preview/Admitted Student recruitment events. Scheduling for such events will be discussed at the weekly staff meetings.
  5. Live in the residence halls and develop a personal relationship with each student assigned to you; be alert to every student's attitudes, achievements, and problems as much as possible. RAs will act to balance their time away from campus with fair regard to other members of the residence life team. No RA should leave consistently for block, field courses, vacations, breaks, holidays, or other reasons unless approved by the Residence Life Director and Coordinator. If you are approved for time away from campus, it is your responsibility to find coverage for the shifts for which you are scheduled. If an RA chooses to leave the position or is terminated and does not wish to remain in The Village, they may be required to pay the early termination fee.
  6. Serve as a positive role model and mentor for other Prescott College students by adhering to the policies and regulations of Prescott College and Housing & Residence Life.
  7. Coordinate and plan social and educational programs each semester. RAs must provide at least two programs, activities, or events per semester. Details and expectations will be shared with the staff during RA training each semester.
  8. Act as a liaison, establishing open communication channels between the students, the Office of Housing & Residence Life, and the Administration of Prescott College. Keep students informed about housing issues and policies by posting notices and through personal contact. Assist students in handling crises and solving conflicts.
  9. Perform general office tasks (i.e., responding to student inquiries, answering phones, filing, scanning, making posters/flyers, and updating the activities calendar). There will be five hours per week of scheduled office time. The primary role of desk duty is to attend to tasks set by the Director of Housing & Residence Life and Coordinator of Residence Life. If all tasks have been completed, this is a proper time to plan and prepare your programs and activities. If all else is complete, you may study or perform coursework.
  10. Complete necessary paperwork on time (i.e., Incident Reports and Google Forms for Duty Logs and Office Hours). Promptly respond to communications from Residence Life staff or other College administrators. Help students fill out Prescott College forms as needed (i.e., work orders, IT HelpDesk Requests).
  11. Attend weekly staff meetings and in-service training meetings in the fall and spring. While at meetings, be present with singular attention to the meeting at hand (please don't bring outside work, don't be on duty for another work or school role, don't bring homework, etc.). Meetings will occur weekly at a communally agreed-upon time for approximately one hour.
  12. Attend a weekly one-on-one meeting with the Residence Life Coordinator. This meeting will last 30 minutes to an hour, depending on each week's needs.
  13. Assist with events, including move-ins, move-outs, orientations, open houses, unit meetings, Preview Days, and other Housing & Residence Life events.
