Job Description

The Writing Center, a member of the Advising and Learning Commons, offers writing coaching as a free service available to all Prescott College students, designed to help students progress towards academic success.

Peer writing tutors will:

  • Hold face-to-face and/or online conferences with undergraduate students to assist them with development, organization, voice, and mechanics in the context of a variety of writing tasks.
  • Write a summary and assessment of each conference.
  • Participate in an initial training session and ongoing check-ins with the Center's director.

Specific hours of employment and in-person or remote status will be determined on a case by case basis.

 

Job Requirements

Candidates for the position MUST have: 

  • Completed some coursework at the undergraduate level at Prescott College
  • A solid understanding of APA and/or MLA publication requirements, including formatting for student papers, citation and referencing standards, and guidelines for presenting numbers and avoiding biased language.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Google Docs.
  • An open mind, a kind demeanor, and a willingness to learn and apply best practices in coaching to all writing conferences.
  • Strong expository, academic writing skills as demonstrated by a writing sample of 5-10 pages OR
  • Experience providing clear, supportive feedback to student writers as demonstrated by a sample of feedback they have given on a student paper.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A background in social science.
  • Demonstrated experience with teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or coaching.
  • Experience with website development.
